Hello everyone!
Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to read this! I just wanted to write a small blurb to share why I participate in this walk each and every year. My mom was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS) when I was only 12 years old. ALS is a disease that literally traps you into your own body. Your mind is fully functional, while one by one your muscles begin to loose their ability to work. It is a horrifically awful disease with no current cure.

For those of you who never met my mother, you truly missed out. My mother was a loving, caring, smart, selfless, sarcastic, amazing woman. I have so many amazing memories about her, but I'll only share a few. She was loving: As a child she would lay in bed with me every night until I fell asleep. She was caring: she always made sure my sister and I both had a delicious dinner, even throughout her disease. She was smart: My mother studied mathematics and business. She was selfless: Once while waiting in line for an ATM my mother noticed a man unable to withdraw money. He seemed very upset. My mother dropped $20 on the ground and told the man that he was the one who dropped the money. She was sarcastic: My mother would always do silly things like put up signs that said "no Yankee fan parking" around our house (my dad is from New York). My mother is amazing: she chose to suffer for years at home so that she could be with her two daughters. mother fought a courageous fight against ALS, but sadly loss her battle in 2006.

I participate in this walk every year for three reasons; The first is for my mother, the second is to find a cure for this horrible disease, and the third is to provided any help/support to any mother who just wants to live to see their children grow up.
