Cory has always said that “One should live life to the fullest – if you are not living on the edge – you are taking up too much space on this earth.”
Cory grew up in Maine on Verona Island and in Orland, and is a 1991 graduate of Bucksport High School. He was active in sports and became a High School Championship Wrestler with over 100 wins. In 2013 he was inducted into the Bucksport Sports Hall of Fame.
Cory is a decorated Veteran who served in the Navy from 1995-2001. He served 4 deployments – Japan (twice), Bahrain, and Diego Garcia.
Cory found ways to make lifelong friends and build memories for the unsuspecting. Anyone who knows Cory, knows he liked to have a good time. To him that made life worth living.
Cory was diagnosed with ALS in 2008 and he tackled this disease as he did any other situation... with determination to make the most out of life. This is Cory’s Way!
Cory resided in North Carolina until he returned home to Verona Island on October 30, 2015. Cory passed peacefully... surrounded by family... on November 22, 2015.
Family and friends are continuing the battle to defeat ALS in loving memory of Cory Wayne Bennett (December 10, 1972 - November 22, 2015).

Why We Need Your Help
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease yet it still costs loved ones an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. Help make a difference and donate or join a walk today.
